Using Google Adwords To Increase Website Traffic

Driving more and more traffic to a website is the bread and butter of a successful e-commerce business. Making websites look attractive, informative etc. will all be of no avail if there are no visitors. More traffic means more potential business and revenue. But not all traffic can generate business as it has been found that only about 10 to 15% of traffic convert into actual business. The rest are just casual visitors not really interested in the product or services that the website offers. Hence webmasters are resorting to precision marketing or laser targeting that aims at certain segment or group of visitors who could be potential customers.

Increasing revenue for any business usually involves spending money. Some money needs to be spent on advertising that make more people aware of the company’s products or services which in turn could entice potential buyers to buy the products. The same strategy is applicable to ecommerce also. Proper advertising of a website can drive the volume of web traffic part of which at least could turn into potential customers. Google adwords is one advertising scheme that has become very popular among online businesses.

In Google’s adwords a fee has to be paid depending on the amount of keywords that an ad is sensitive to. Whenever any user of the search engine types in the keyword, the relevant ads would appear on the first results page itself. Thus the ads target specific persons looking for information on the keyword and improve the chances of him/her clicking on the ad. This increases the likelihood of potential customers visiting the site. Similar to Google other search engines like AskJeeves, Netscape and AOL Search also provide for placing ads in similar fashion in their websites. Many non search engine sites and other content network sites also feature Google’s adwords depending on the subject or niche area that they cater to. The frequency of ads also can be varied depending on one’s budget.

Laser targeting customers through Google’s adwords is an excellent means of increasing the traffic to customer ratio of a website. The choice of right keywords is very important and there are many internet tools that provide help in this area. The keyword phrase should be currently in demand to drive the maximum amount of traffic. The statistics of persons visiting the site through Google’s adwords would reveal the effectiveness of the scheme. Many websites have been benefited by Google’s adwords and they have realized superior cost to benefit ratio. Hence it may be worth spending on them in order to improve the number of potential customers to a website and also the revenue.
